Description
Assists instructors in setting up and conducting lessons; assists teaching skills for all age levels; helps ensure safety of class participants.

Requirements
TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of departmental rules concerning the area in which assigned; teaching methods and techniques.
SKILL: Demonstrated skill in the operation of equipment necessary to perform the functions of the job. Skills must match or exceed the level or skill of particular class.
ABILITY: Work with children of varied ages; be positive to participants; provide positive feedback to participants and parents; demonstrate all skills taught in lessons and ensure safety of participants.
TRAINING: CPR and First Aid desired.
EXPERIENCE: Swimming, sports, or childcare in a structured program experience preferred or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides evidence that the applicant possesses the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The following duties are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive:
- Assist in teaching class content appropriate to the course description and level; assist in developing appropriate tools necessary.
- Assist in monitoring students and their ability to participate.
- Responsible for taking attendance, setting up equipment, putting equipment away, and assisting in actual lessons.
- Must demonstrate skills and provide one-on-one assistance for participants.
- Perform related work as required and assigned.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be at least 15 years old.
- Swimming skills must match or exceed the levels of the class that the swim instructor aide assists in.
- May be restricted to age requirement as specified by FLSA:
- Age 14-15 years limited to:
- School in Session - 3 hours/day; 18 hours/week between 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
- School not in Session (06/01 thru Labor Day) - 8 hours/day; 40 hours/week; no later than 9:00 p.m.
